Karl Pelgrave

I am a contortion coach and performer with many years of multi-disipline experience. Starting off as an acrobatic gymnast in my youth and moving through many varied activities including dance, martial arts and artistic gymnastics, contortion and most recently aerial arts. I have learnt many skills that contribute to the way that I approach my coaching and my performances. It was during my time teaching artistic gymnastics that I really realised that I have a passion for teaching people, alongside my own practice. I've had the opportunity to train with various trainers around the world all from different backgrounds meaning I have rounded experience in both western and eastern contortion styles. I have been coaching gymnastics for 8 years as well as contortion and flexibility for 4. I am accredited under British Gymnastics as a gymnastics coach and have been teaching more specialised flexibility to various gyms around the North West. Also, having an interest in psychology and having studied sports psychology at university; I worked with high level clubs and athletes to investigate the types of practice that led to creating elite level athletes. Currently completing my masters in health psychology with a focus in neuroscience I try and bring a more wide varied and studious and progressive method to my coaching. I still collaborate and train with other coaches to keep my knowledge relevant and up to date. My approach to contortion is methodical, with a focus on injury prevention and active muscle manipulation. I aim to develop the strength, alongside the flexibility required to be a good contortionist. If you're interested in coaching, or performance please get in touch.
