Yuko Hata

Yuko Hata was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Hata started rhythmic gymnastics at age 10 and began dance at 15 years old. She graduated from the Japan Women’s College of Physical Education where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, studying modern, classic ballet, jazz and tap. She also studied Graham and Horton technique for more than 10 years. After graduation, she joined the Shiki Theatre Company in Tokyo, Japan where she performed in over 300 Broadway musicals of The Lion King from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, she began training aerial tissu at the Aerial Art Dance Project in Japan for four years and then moved to San Francisco to further pursue aerial tissu in the professional aerial program at Circus Center. She auditioned for Cirque du Soleil in 2010 and made it through the last 10 peoples. After graduating from Circus Center she refocused on dance in 2010. In 2011, she worked with Labayen Dance/SF and joined Copious Dance Theater in 2013. She began her contortion training in 2014 under Serchmaa Byamba. In the same year, Hata interviewed as a dancer for House of Dancing Water in Macau. Since then, she’s performed with Capacitor, Acrobatic Conundrum, Circus Automatic and Witchtech as dancer, contortionist, hand balancer and aerialist.
